sunshine makes me happy

Today was beautiful, this time of year is wonderful...
I was fortunate enough to attend a graduation from medical school so rich in history and promise, 235 hearts beating wildly as they officially became doctors-- with the road stretching in front of them as they move to the next stage of learning... a step closer to being who they want to be! Another friend is graduating with her PhD, years of hard work, late nights and many countless hours in the lab all for this celebration :)

I am so happy to be right here in this moment in time.

I am so happy to see my friends and loved ones "being" who they wanted to be! It is a very exciting time, love that I have been able to see them becoming who they are :) sounds like I am 100 yrs old. Now I know why older people tell you these are the best years of your life cause they seriously are!

Now what do you do when you are sitting there not where you want to be... this is tough... but you can do it! Each step forward is a step in the right direction. It is so easy to become comfortable where we are sitting thinking yeah maybe this is what it is suppose to be... but are you happy? truly happy? are you doing what you want to do for the rest of your working career?
If the answer is anything but a resounding YES! take a minute to look around and find out what it is that makes your heart sing... well maybe not sing but what makes you happy?

I have a job that can be very taxing and for the most part I love it, but when push comes to shove and I sit to think what else could I be doing that would make me so happy... and I can only think of maybe owning a book shop in an old Victorian house with the worlds best bakery and coffee shop, and upstairs there would be a yarn studio where you can come knit and sip coffee and chat with your friends, or just sit on the big wrap around porch looking out at the ocean...did I mention it would be on a beach somewhere?... now this would probably never happen unless I win the lotto...

So do what you love and don't settle for anything less! whether its going back to school or taking your job to the next level or just pouring your all into what you are doing now-do it and do it with a smile on your face cause really if you are happy doing what you do, everyone will notice!

things I never thought I would hear or say...

Children are a treasure, I love them, I love that I can live so close to my family a stones throw away from 3 wonderful kids and all the joys and laughter they may bring...
that being said I have not been a stranger when it comes to children, I was a nanny and now I am an aunty so all is good..

I have heard some very funny things in the last few years so I thought I would share them with you :)

overheard while talking to my sister on the phone as she was talking to her potty training two year old...
"...noooo don't wipe your bum with your sock...."

"No no no that's not poop, thats just a leaf stuck to the bottom of your sock..."

" do you have to pee? no? then stop grabbing your parts!!"...
that is just from my little people in my life :)

the other people I care for in this world have generated many more smiles and and attempts to stifle a snicker or two...

I am a nurse, and sometimes my favourite part of nursing is the moments that usually happen in the still of the night...

nurse: explaining that she was going to be there all night for the patient
patient: I'm not paying for BS
nurse: thats good cause I'm not charging...
patient: ok then.

me: "Where are you going "*Mr Smith"?
him: "I'm get'n the helloutta here"
me: "well you haven't been out of bed for 2 weeks, I don't think that is not your best idea- how about you stay for another day or two"
him: "can I have ice cream?"
me: "I'll see what I can do"
him: "ok, I'll stay"
--proof ice cream solves all your troubles!
*names have been changed to protect the good peoples I look after

I am not a fan of eavesdropping but I am usually around for many lovely and exquisite random moments and statements that seem to be born from moments that hang in the air waiting to swoop down into someones head when there is a quiet moment and when you least expect it it comes shooting out of your mouth with no warning whatsoever...

so here are just a few random tidbits that made me smile

in the middle of a quiet nursing station on night shift people charting all around
"it's been years since I had a fondu"....

In passing..... "you know Jillian Michaels has made me very aware of my butt"...

I love my life, love my family and friends, and yes even love my job.... most days :)

turning over another new leaf... again...

So I was thinking about lots of things over the last weeks, I am still basking in the glow of just returning from the most lovely week in sunny California. More on that later I am going to make time to keep up with this little activity of blogging.

I love reading other peoples blogs- they often mention how nice it is to sit down after a busy day and clear their heads with a little chat with themselves really, its like listening in on a phone conversation or sitting in a coffee shop alone people watching and overhearing an interesting conversation at the next table. So I will attempt to let you in on my coffee table conversations, I can't promise you anything big, just the ramblings of someone who tends to look at things from a different perspective.... so pour yourself a cup of coffee and scoot a little closer, I hope this little blog leaves you with a smile of your face.

So cheers to turning over a new leaf... well the old leaf... but I dusted it off and watered it....and re-potted it and put it in a window so it grows.... this is my kind of gardening...
